The End of The Pokémon Card Game Online

The End of The Pokémon Card Game Online

The Pokémon Card Game Online started back in March of 2011. Trainers of the beloved card would now have the ability to test their skills against people beyond their local area. They could try new decks and climb the competitive ladder. The Game brought the excitement to life with fun attack animations and it even did all the shuffling for you. Unfortunately, sad news came to Pokémon fans. On January 31st Pokémon made an announcement that TPCGO will be receiving its final update on March 1st, 2023. Crown Zenith will be its final expansion. It will be sad to see it go.

According to Pokemon.com “The in-game Versus Ladder reward tracks will continue to update leading up to an eventual game sunset, but no further updates will come to the Pokémon TCG Online outside of potential bug fixes.”

There is a silver lining. Many trainers might already be aware of The Pokémon Card Game Live. This will be TPCGO’s replacement. It is still in open Beta and available to play, but it will be a long time before it is polished and fully flushed out. The idea is to put the resources and energy into the new iteration of the game and hopefully get the best experience for trainers. Many users complain about the bugs so hopefully this shift will give the game a much needed update.

Many items will be transferable between the two platforms but not all. Cards all the way back to Black and White and accessories like card sleeves and coins will all be transferable. Some items, like unopened chests and avatar items are not transferable. Make sure to check the FAQ to make sure you are prepared for the change. There is no current deadline to transfer.

We unfortunately have to wave goodbye to TPCGO for now. Hopefully at launch TPCGL will be everything trainers want it to be. either way it will continue to be an exciting experience for people to keep battling.
