Introducing the All New English Pokémon Card

Introducing the All New English Pokémon Card

The Japanese version of Pokémon cards are widely considered to be more appealing. The reverse side is more colorful, the borders compliment the art, and the textures make rare cards more vibrant. Finally, starting 2023 with the release of Scarlet and Violet, English sets are getting a huge makeover!

Take your first look at the all new English Pokémon Card

In an effort to unite the global Pokémon community, The Pokémon Company Incorporated (TPCi) has updated the yellow border around all common cards. The change to gray gives each card's design the feel that was originally intended by the artist.

Additionally, the trainer card subcategory has been moved from the top right to the top left. This will make the information more visible in players hands. The energy cards have also undergone a slight change to increase visibility during play. A symbol has appeared on the bottom right of each card and bold text has been added to the top left.

The Pokémon tool cards have gotten their own category. They are no longer a subset of items. This change will be displayed on the top left of every Pokémon tool card.

Another major change is that english cards are receiving set codes instead of set symbols. An example might be SV1EN to denote the first Scarlet and Violet expansion and the English language. Whatever comes next will likely display SV2 etc.

Lastly, English rarity symbols will be matching Japan's. For example, our double rare card will be depicted with two stars.

Hopefully this closes the gap between the regional card rivalry and unifies the community of Pokemon trainers. The English cards will finally receive the visual update that they deserve.

Keep an eye out in March when the Scarlet and Violet expansions become available to pre-order and purchase. Nexgen/ Pokemonplug will have all the new cards that you'll be craving!
