Pokémon Hits a Record Milestone!
Pokémon released their numbers for last year and the result is staggering! TPCI produced 9.7 billion cards from March 2022 to March 2023. The company has only been keeping accurate records somewhat recently so we cant be sure of an accurate total. However it is clear that the number of cards produced has skyrocketed since the pandemic and has continued to rise since then.
To put into perspective just how many cards that is, I did some quick math. One Pokémon card is 35 points thick, or .035 inches. If you stacked 9.7 billion cards back to back (not lengthwise) the cards would cover 94,000 football fields. A Pokémon card is 3.5 inches long. If you laid them end to end the cards would circle the earth 21 times. And that all happened in just one year!
What do you think the numbers will look like for next year? When will Pokémon's meteoric rise turn around? How many of those cards produced were actually sold? Let us know what you think in the comments and don't forget to contribute to the astronomic production by coming in to Nexgen Games!
