Most Valuable Scarlet and Violet Base Cards.

Most Valuable Scarlet and Violet Base Cards.

Scarlet and Violet has been out now for several weeks and prices have settled after the hype has moved on to Snow Hazard and Clay Burst. Now is the best time to take a look at the value of the cards and determine the best from S&V’s inaugural expansion.

Among the many radical changes that have come to us in S&V is the pull rates. Thanks to our friends at TCGplayer, they have discovered that the pull rate for cards is not only much easier since Sword and Shield but also Identical. Instead of a few crazy rare alternate art cards Pokémon inserted more hyper-rare cards with easier pull rates. This is great for completionists who want to fill out their binders. It means more cards will be available at lower prices. Flippers will not be as thrilled since they won't be able to flip multi-hundred dollar deals.

Miriam is on this list without question, her Ultra rare comes in at #5. The card features the Waifu tax. However, the usefulness and rarity of the card hold it back. Miriam has a more rare card that will appear later and it won't see much playtime in competitive decks. Regardless, the full art trainer cards currently sits at $25.00.

At number 4 is Koriadon ex. He and Miriadon have too many cards in this set combined, but their special illustration cards are the most valuable. The artwork is stunning on this piece. It features the fighting type legendary prowling the jungle, weaving between trees and other Pokémon. Even though this is the 4th most valuable card to acquire, it is only $25.00 dollars. This is another testament to the approachability to this set. Decks and collections will be filled much more quickly.

#3 is Gardevoir ex. The illustration that tells a story comes to a conclusion with this card. The Pokémon and her trainers are all grown up. All three of the cards in this line are expensive. Gardevoir predictably takes the cake. The card is rare and in high demand. It's the perfect recipe for an expensive card. Right now she sits at $42.00 but I am excited to see where this card moves long term.

#2 is Miriadon ex illustration rare. The artwork for the legendary electric type is phenomenal; he is riding the currents past the upper windows of a skyscraper, inspiring awe in a Pokémon who managed to catch a glimpse. The card is gorgeous and is used in a meta deck right now making it essential to many trainers. That sets the price at a large but attainable $42.00

And finally at #1 is the Miriam special illustration rare. The card is wonderful in art and color but the real recipe for success of this piece is the rarity and the cuteness. For the second time on a top 5 list, Miriam gets points for being the waifu that players want. She has captivated enough trainers to command a $63.00 price tag.

Overall this is a much cheaper set than the more recent Sword and Shield expansions. It is also unlikely that any number of these cards will skyrocket in value in the near future. Did all of Pokémon's changes to the newest generation hurt the overall value in the secondary market going forward? Keep an eye on the horizon for the next expansion, Paldea Evolved, to see if the trend continues downward. And come into Nexgen games to grab more packs for a chance to grab these cards and many more like it.
